My mother left Havana alone on one of the Operation Peter Pan flights that got over 14,000 children off the island between 1960 and 1962. She was 13 years old. My grandmother left Havana later with not much more than a clear idea of who she was. She landed in Miami, kept the idea, and rebuilt a life around it. I grew up watching them — and watching the women around them — do the quiet, structural work of starting over. Nobody called it that. They just did it.

I went to law school because I wanted to understand the architecture of the systems women were stepping into and out of. I got sober in 2004 because I wanted to be present for the life I was actively building. I had two daughters. I founded Carolan Family Law. I sat across the table from women at their worst moments and at their bravest, and I noticed the same pattern over and over: the legal piece was almost never the hard piece. The hard piece was waking up.

“I left because I woke up to what was true. That’s it. That’s the whole reason.”

So I built. Separia, the first platform built for the complete arc of a major transition. MomMind AI, with my friend Teri Arvesu, to teach women how to use artificial intelligence to reclaim their time and stay relevant. And Carolan Family Law, now an online advisory practice for the women who only need a clear-eyed second opinion.

Today I write, build, and practice from Coral Gables, Florida — raising two daughters and running an ecosystem of companies built around the lives women actually live.

This site is the public-facing record of that work. The book is the philosophy. The companies are the proof. The talks are the conversation. And this — the writing here, the letters, the essays — is the thinking out loud.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Who is Aliette Hernandez Carolan?
I am a first generation Cuban-American attorney, author, tech founder, and bilingual speaker. I have practiced family law in Florida for over two decades. I am also sober since June 2004, divorced, and raising two daughters, so this work was never academic for me. I have lived through what my clients experience. I write and speak about human transformation, about how people and families come apart and how they rebuild. I have built a beautiful life on the other side of all of it, and I talk about what it really takes to start over.
What do you speak and get interviewed about?
Divorce, co-parenting, family law, and personal transformation. I am not speaking in theory. Every point comes from real cases I handled over two decades and from my own life. I am comfortable on camera, comfortable being challenged, and I can do a segment in English or Spanish.
Do you speak about sobriety and recovery?
Yes. My sobriety is infused in all of the advice I give and the principles I live by. It is one of the biggest transformations of my life, and it connects directly to my work. Divorce, recovery, rebuilding without fear. These are all the same story of becoming and evolving, and I speak openly about all of it.
Are you available for podcasts and news interviews?
Yes. Podcasts, broadcast segments, and news commentary. I am based in Miami and available remote or in-studio. For breaking news, I can usually turn around quickly. Reach me through the contact page.
Do you speak in Spanish?
Yes. I am fully bilingual. I give interviews and talks in Spanish and English, and I have done Spanish-language media throughout my career.
Have you written a book?
Yes. My first book is Just in Case! Lose Your Heart, Not Your Mind, published by Bricktower Press. I have a second book on the way. I also write regularly about relationships, divorce, and rebuilding.
How do I book you?
Use the contact page on this site. Tell me the show or outlet, the topic, the format, and your timing. I respond to media inquiries quickly.
